Nature is Falling

Thoughts and observations near Black Rock Glacier, Alaska

Ice is falling

from Black Rock Glacier.

It began with a sudden loud

crackling boom;

when I turned to see

the ice was already dropping.

It had gathered enough

momentum and force,

to crash into the sea,

exploding and uplifting a cloudy,

icy cloud,

while barely leaving a ripple
on the water's surface.

A few more seconds passed,

the icy debris settled

and seemingly, it seemed,

as if nothing had happened.

What remained

was the floating ice,

the eery silence,

and the warm Alaskan

summer breeze.
