A brief introduction:

The Muralists at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, Florida, have recently completed the mural project for the Teacher Education Academy, including the additional panels at the left and right of the central entrance. This campus is identical in its architectural layout as Santaluces High School, while our mural differ in designs since we have depicted three joined outdoor scenes under the tropical sun.

The students who have participated - nearly 50 - have done a splendid work during the time frame of three months. They have not only depicted our Florida nature scenes, but have also portrayed the likeness of their fellow students into the designs. Everyone you will see painted in these murals, are students who attend Spanish River High School. To their credit and hard work after school, the Muralists have come voluntarily each week with the aspiration to be creative and together they have transformed the mundane school walls, into work of art and beauty. A fair number came with a firmly established sense of artistic ability, while others had never touched a paint brush in their young lives.

Yet no one felt discouraged to take up the challenge, be adventurous, and tackle the blank walls. Noticibly however, in their first moments I often notice some apprehension, until suddenly it gave way as they became aware of having discovered something new and expressive. Inevitably, they came to realize how art, is the human extension of discovering the self within each of us.

Please do explore this page and others, honoring our young bright students who are at the threshold of their future, and art, is at this moment part of their experience.
